Welcome to the User Management module where we will be discussing all things Users! There are 9 videos in this section each with acompanying summary, esources and transcript. A few of the lessons will also have exercises, do have a go at them. I know certainly for myself the tempation is to skip such exercises but not only do they help reinforce learning but also are genuinely useful exercise to run on your sites!
Hello and welcome to this module on user management.
This module is designed to help you harden your user security from understanding of what is a user through to well actually what can they do and more importantly what shouldn’t they be allowed to do.
So we’re going to be looking at how you can audit your users and getting through this concept of know your user.
So the module split into different lessons. The first lesson is what is a user? We also talk about different types of users. So like service users and temporary users.
We talk about users roles and capabilities. Then we go into specific things like password management and session management and using alternative login through to multiffactor authentication. We spend a good deal of time talking about single sign on and when it is a good thing to use and when it’s not a good thing to use.
And then there’s a section on auditing users as well as putting it all together. Throughout this module, there are resources for each one of the lessons, and several of the lessons come with exercises.
I know the temptation is to skip these exercises, but they are really worth doing. Also, I know that I’m the sort of person that might skip a what is a user lesson, thinking, well, that’s going to be well basic. But I do encourage you to go through each of the lessons if you can.
